Building on a 50-year success
So, the fact that a building firm has been doing it for 50 years, and does dozens and sometimes 100 new one-offs in a 12-month period, is short of miraculous. The fact most clients are pleased is, well, beyond miraculous.
Those who scour planning notices will be familiar with the name Murphy New Homes Banteer, as they frequently lodge for single house builds in mid-Munster in batches every month or so.
Now, as the firm marks 50 years of house building, it is broadening its reach and launching as the M-Group.
The M-Group will drive further activities of the company, which includes Murphy New Homes, Murphy Commercial (contract building, schools, retail etc), Murphy Interiors and Murphy Properties, the latter handling lettings.
Managing Director Willie Murphy said that the establishment of the M-Group was “part of the new corporate strategy to facilitate continued growth and diversification into other niche markets. The one-off housing market is still booming, more and more people want their dream house and we offer the full service. We can build their house from a selection of our own designs or from the client’s drawings.”
But, it is also going a development route itself, with planning for 22 units at Curragh, Freemount Road, Kanturk. The company is seeking planning for a further 52 units for a second phase.
Murphy New Homes currently complete approximately 80 to 95 one-off rural houses, depending on size, in Cork county, south Limerick and west Kerry per year, employing over 110 people both directly and indirectly.
It was founded by Seán Murphy in Banteer, and is still family-run. The M-group has released a brochure, DVD and website.
