BALLINAGREE is not the centre of the universe, but when the Macroom bypass comes along, this little mid-Cork hamlet will be well placed for commuters.

Which is why developers Terry and Joan McSweeney took a punt on the location and have built six, detached houses there.

The showhouse opened last week and there was a very good response, says John O’Mahony of Property Partners O’Mahony Walsh.

And that’s not surprising because these 2,000 square foot, architect-designed properties offer a high standard at low prices.

There are two designs on offer and the slightly smaller of the two, at 1,950 sq ft has a guide of €359,000, about 12,000 more than a three-bed semi in Ballincollig. The second type comes with 2,050 square feet and is on offer at €365,000.

Ballinagree has a school, church and shop and it’s on a bus route to Macroom.: Cork city is a 35-minute commute, which should improve when the bypass comes along.

Meanwhile, second level students have the option of schools at Macroom and Coachford.

The developers are also offering PC sums for kitchens, fireplaces, tiling and timber flooring and a showhouse designed with a slightly French colonial flair by Embellish of Skibbereen is opened.

According to John O’Mahony, there was a very positive response to the design and layout of the houses when they opened last week.

They’ll also be opening on Saturday and Sunday this bank holiday weekend from 2pm to 4pm.
