Two options for those who covet a snug coastal retreat

HARBOUR VIEW is one of those places that the name says it all. But, the thing about this west of Cork seaside setting is that the name is historic... it isn’t just some developer or house vendor’s fancy.

Harbour View is out beyond Kilbrittain and Bandon, in the loose hinterland that includes Timoleague and with Courtmacsherry across the bay, and it is where south County Cork gives sway to the wilder beauty of west Cork.

Newly up for sale here is a four-bedroomed bungalow, out on an elevated site above the public road by the famed Pink Elephant bar and restaurant.

Already extended, the bungalow’s joys lie in the views as much as the house itself, and the aspect is perfectly placed for sunlight glistening off the water and evening sunsets. And, with beaches prominent in the locality (there’s a choice of challenging surfing and windsurfing beaches, or long golden strands) it is a place that might be bought for holidays, and ‘banked’ for future retirement.

Agents DNG Michel Galvin are selling the detached property with matching window bays to the front, on good but not over-large grounds. Rooms include a lounge, dining room, sun room, fitted kitchen with Stanley stove, main bathroom and the master bedroom has its own en suite shower room.

DNG say the price is POA, but the expectation is likely to be in the region of €700,000.

Meanwhile, also coastal, and not so fine a house but fine nonetheless, is a detached traditional cottage-style house in an elevated setting overlooking Ballinglanna Bay.

Further west along the scenic route, and closer to Clonakilty than Bandon, the cottage on a third of an acre grounds at Ardgehane, Ballinglanna needs a fair bit of modernisation.

It has two first floor bedrooms, and up to three ground floor rooms plus kitchen thanks to a lean-to extension. Agent Ray O’Neill of Sherry FitzGerald O’Neill seeks offers over €240,000.
