Farmhouse an ideal getaway

THERE’S no knowing how a 130-year-old farmhouse near Kealkil in west Cork came to be called Fig Tree Cottage but the name adds to the property’s charm.

Farmhouse an ideal getaway

Completely renovated in the past two years, the house is on the market with DNG O’Sullivan in Kenmare, which is seeking offers of €320,000. They say it’s nicely decorated in traditional style and is in excellent condition. “It’s in a tranquil setting and has impressive views of Kealkil valley,” says auctioneer Tadhg O’Sullivan.

Accommodation includes a living room with a large open fireplace with multi-fuel stove, a kitchen with new fitted units and a dining room. Upstairs there’s a bathroom and four bedrooms including two with balconies. During renovations the ceiling beams were exposed, new carpets were laid and new insulation installed. Solid-fuel heating is supplemented by storage heating.
