Toe Head homes offer contrasting options

BELIEVE it or not, west Cork has also been affected by the property slump, so now is the time to pick up that second or retirement property.

Toe Head homes offer contrasting options

There are two houses on Toe Head available, and while one comes under the title of ‘here’s one I prepared earlier’, the second is the real farmhouse deal.

Number one is called the Yellow House and it’s at Lickowen, Toe Head. A madeover farmhouse, it’s three miles from Castletownshend and five miles from Skibbereen, and it has two sandy beaches locally — Trá na Dhugh and Trá na Gach.

Rooms are on the tidy side, but include a kitchen, living room, conservatory, study, three bedrooms and two bathrooms with guest WC.

It’s an ideal holiday home, says Mícheál Duggan of Sherry FitzGerald O’Neill who quotes €395,000 for the farmhouse.

Maeve McCarthy on the other hand, has a doer-upper at Gortnacrossig, Toe Head, which is off a small road leading up to the little peninsula’s Napoleonic tower.

It needs modernisation, but the reward is an acre site with a range of outbuildings and a four-bed house.

It’s on the market at €350,000 and is five miles from Skibbereen and close to Castletownshend. Tragumna Beach and Sandycove are close by, says Ms McCarthy of Charlie McCarthy Auctioneers.
