Location and ‘a bit off the sides’

DATING back to the mid-1900s, and in need of some updating, Glenstal has location, aspect and ‘a bit off the side’ in its favour.

The latter is a former hairdressing salon, built onto the attractive-looking four-bed semis and for which planing permission was granted.

This gives the house, on Cork’s Magazine Road, a bit of an edge: it may suit someone with a private office/surgery/treatement rooms practice, an investor looking to rent bedrooms to students (€100 per room is being achieved for student accommodation), or it may appeal to a family buyer.

It is near Lima Lawn, at the western end of Magazine Road, and the asking price is €475,000. An insurance claim for drains work has been processed, and this can be done before a new owner takes charge.

Estate agent Michael O’Donoghue (of McKenna O’Donoghue Clarke Real Estate Alliance) coins a neat descriptive term for this solid but dated style of house “like your mother had.”
