Big interest in cottage with stunning views above beautiful secluded cove
Yet, it will make that and more. Thanks to its setting, above Simon’s Cove near Clonakilty in West Cork, this executor sale is a banker.
Simon’s Cove is one of the region’s lesser known coves, with shingly sand in a cut-out in the indented rocks while, just to the west, flat beds of rock stretch out just above sea level for hundreds of yards, with some indentations for braver kids to go rock jumping from.
Just a few years ago, this cul-de-sac cove was home only to a few house wrecks. Now a superb rebuilding job has been down on two old stone bothies, bedded into a sheltered spot in a valley cleft, and another more prominently-sited ruin has become a large, valuable family home with knockout views.
This slightly more inland cottage is on an elevated acre, with views one way to the sea and to Simon’s Cove, and back the other way to Clonakilty town and towards
Darrara. It has about 750 sq ft of space, with two thirds of this at the lower level where there’s a store, porch and rear annex boosting the small original footprint. Selling agents Henry O’Leary Property Partners say it is in surprisingly good condition, with new windows and a replacement roof.
The acre is level and, subject to planning permission, this property could take considerable further extension and or investment, says Mr O’Leary, adding of the headland-set house keeping almost sentinel guard to the lane to Simon’s Cove: “it is in a class of its own.”
