Waterfront property just perfect
The Skibbereen auctioneer is handling the sale of a 84-acre property at Kilcomane, Dunbeacon six miles west of Durrus, and diagonally over the peninsula from Dunlough Bay by the Mizen which was spectacularly awash in on €100m worth of cocaine in the middle of last week.
Hauls of this size make even Irish property look cheap, and this Kilcomane offering has been owned for year by continental Europeans.
It is a peculiar mix of small house twice extended, on a rock-strewn landscape, but with some good grazing, has a stone lofted barn, two glass houses, two orchards and some semi-tropical planting, as well as vine and fig trees.
The house at the north eastern end of the land was originally a stone cottage, but has been twice extended, with an 800 sq ft (40’ by 20’) main reception room added in the 1970s, complete with highly polished parquet floor.
The original section has a kitchen, and two reception rooms, plus bathroom, overhead are four bedrooms, and the extension houses that big drawing room, a dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, two or three bedrooms, dressing room and a conservatory with slate floor.
The acreage and long paved approach driveway ensures privacy, there’s a good share of waterfrontage, plus a stony cove and pier. Nothing to be sniffed at.
