Riverrun may be ready to Bloom again

THE clinching final offer on Riverrun seemed almost too good to be true. And, unfortunately for the vendors, it was.

The Mardyke Cork city house with attitude called Riverrun (after the opening line in Finnegan’s Wake) hit the market just two months ago, guiding in excess of €595,000.

It had location, uniqueness, and merits galore (as well as a bit of spread in these pages) and bidding took off.

It went mega, making considerably over €700,000 for its owners who are moving abroad.

Then, having gone Sale Agreed in jig time, the bidder failed to complete the purchase and pulled out.

The house with its literary James Joyce name is now being marketed again with agents Sherry FitzGerald, who pitch its price now at a figure between the original asking, and the level it had been bid to: at €695,000, and the vendors are keen for a sale.

Riverrun’s address is 17, Montfort Place on the Mardyke, a spot steeped in Cork city sporting lore. It is directly opposite UCC’s sports grounds and indoor swimming pool, with Fitzgerald’s Park also close by. The city centre is half a mile away.

Riverrun has 1.600 sq ft of space, with extended ‘wings’ to the back on either side, plus a converted attic with pull-downs stair access.

Given that one of the owners was involved in devising the Our House TV series, the house has lots of stylish features and Smart wiring, for high speed broadband and home-networking.

There’s good open and airy living space, particularly to the back, four overhead bedrooms, main first floor family bathroom and a ground floor bathroom too, a south-facing hide-away back garden full of colour and characterful-planting.
