Rambling stone property in the heart of the countryside

A FORMER barn was part of the grand design for this newly crafted house at South Ridge, Ballyfeard, south Cork.

Rambling stone property in the heart of the countryside

The rambling stone property is a conversion job that now extends to 1,800 square feet and incorporates four bedrooms and oodles of living space.

On the market with Joanne Blake of ERA Downey McCarthy Murphy, this is a one-off house in the true sense and comes with a €750,000 price tag.

It’s tucked away in a secluded part of the countryside, she says, and is surrounded by big old trees in a location which is just a few minutes’ drive to Carrigaline.

There’s lots of land surrounding this property so it’s ideal for those who love their privacy and real country living.

And, as this area is in a rural control zone, planning permission is usually difficult to get for houses, which puts a premium on existing properties, like this one.

The living space has a good flow, with a particularly large lounge of over 18’ by 13’5’, with a stone fireplace and a curved end wall. The room comes with three big windows to boot.

The square hallway, with a full height window, gives onto another living room and this could double as a fourth bedroom, says the agent.

The back of the house has a large living/dining space divided by an old stone arch and leads onto a utility and bathroom by the back door.

The gallery stairway leads to three double bedrooms on the first floor as well as a main bathroom. Like the lounge, bedroom four also has the benefit of a curved wall for interest.

The house comes with a number of patio areas and the footings for an extension are already in place and function as a terraced area at the moment.
