Period property offers perfect chance to move up in the world

PRICES in the St Luke’s Cross area of Cork are rising as steeply as some of its approach hills. The genteel area is back in favour with the well-heeled, who are coming back in comfortable droves to the period houses of this handy, hillside location not even a mile from the city core.

The area has sheer convenience on its side, as it’s within strolling distance of the city, schools, shops, theatres and more: ironic, then, that its owners are making a move north of Cork city, to a country property that can only be reached by car.

The country place they have their eye on (but can’t be mentioned until contracts are signed) is worth someone’s eye-teeth, but it is a tough renovation challenge too: however, the duo here have experience of doing up period properties in Cork and abroad, and their own family home is one such example.
