Two homes with character on Cork’s Bandon road

TWO properties are up for sale on the outskirts of Cork city at the moment and they offer a choice in detached living.

Two homes with character on Cork’s Bandon road

The first of the Bandon road houses is at starter home level, but may not remain there for long as the house comes with a quarter of an acre site in a heavily restricted area.

And, despite murmurs of unconstitutionality, the chance of building in these areas is slim, so buyers look for secondhand homes instead.

In this case, Brookfield Cottage, on Goggin’s Hill, hits a number of targets. Its site is big enough for an extension and the house, albeit in pristine condition, is small enough to knock, for those with pockets big enough to acquire it and build anew on the site.

Andy Moore of Andrew Moore and Co is selling the property which comes re-wired, re-plumbed, dry-lined and with new doors and windows.

A two-bedroom unit, it has an open-plan sitting room and dining area, a kitchen, utility and bathroom.

The guide price is €300,000 but that could rise with bidding.

Further up the same hill a house called after the famous Lippizaner horses offers a bit more ground and a bit more house and it has a higher price, too, at €490,000.

With 2,200 square feet of space, the property has plenty of scope for a family and it’s also on the bus route to Goggin’s Hill national school.

It’s on the market with Sinéad Twohig of Property Choice.

On a site of three quarters of an acre, the property comes with four bedrooms and is in great condition, says Ms Twohig.
