No ebb to flow of bids in coastal commuter spot

STILL an incoming tide at Cork city’s nearest beach at Fountainstown, then? Following a recent sale by public auction of a pretty villa-like bungalow right by the popular beach in Cork for €875,000, estate agent Roy Dennehy has consolation prizes for disappointed underbidders.

And, while the good news is that the prices hover around the €500,000 mark for options in the hinterland, the disappointing news is that they are not quite so close to the water’s edge as the strand house, Meadowsweet. That bungalow was picked up at auction by a property developing local, who is expected to seek permission to knock and rebuild his €875,000 acquisition.

Other new offerings include a 550 sq ft block-built three-bed summer home, at O’Regan’s Field in nearby Myrtleville.

It has a sitting/dining room, kitchenette, and shower room squeezed into its modest frame.

Setting is by the Stoney Boreen, and the views to the east are to Roches Point and Power Head.

The price guide is €500,000.

Meanwhile, back the far side of Fountainstown, Roy Dennehy has a two-bed cottage on an elevated acre beyond the back strand.

It is within a walk of the beach at Fountainstown, and the first flurry of bids has brought it to the €500,000 level.

It has great country and coastal views, looks towards Ringabella and woods, and the property, in fine fettle throughout, includes a detached garage.
