Double take gives this Schull home holiday edge

IN West Cork, you can sometimes become a little jaded with stone-fronted houses in idyllic locations.

It’s almost like saying that heaven’s a place where nothing happens - until of course, you live in one.

Take this prime example in Lowertown, Schull, which, while it may twitch the status anxiety of the average, single home owner, is a pretty good take on the vernacular. Architect-designed, the two-storey farmhouse can cram in much more space, but with the mass broken up by roof levels and the use of stone and slate.

Small wonder then that it carries a price tag of €750,000: for a holiday home that’s a little outside the average spend.

However, in West Cork, this is at the low end of the scale, and in terms of bangs for the buck, its not bad considering you’re getting two houses for one. Canny buyers could convert the annexe into a nice little earner, but at this level, most people will value the privacy instead.
