Mini-estate might be a nice little earner

FANCY a retirement home and a nice little earner? A collection of three cottages, two attached and one detached, on just under four acres of prime Kerry real estate are on offer through Mark Daly of Sherry FitzGerald Daly.

Gleesk Pier Cottages are the result of the endeavours of two expat owners who, consecutively, have converted the original 150-year-old dwelling into three distinct properties.

This mini-estate is set on a mountainside just a mile from Coral Beach between Sneem and Caherdaniel and is on offer at around €525,000, down from a considerably higher guide price.

In one of the most desirable locations in the Ivereagh Peninsula, the cottages have a maximum 22-week rental potential, says Mark Daly, but declined to mention figures.

Given that the developers have been expats, then they might be forgiven for naming two of the cottages after famous Irishmen. For instance, the detached 'Daniel O'Connell' draws visitors from all over the world, say the vendors and comes with a four-star Bord Failte rating.

Marketing has been through a dedicated website with links to travel companies.

The main residence has a large lounge with stone fireplace, a fully fitted cherry kitchen and one ensuite bedroom, with the potential for a further bedroom in the library/ study. Daniel O'Connell cottage has a lounge, kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom and the 'Michael Collins' has more or less the same layout, but with a connecting corridor to the main residence.

This could be absorbed into the main house, if required.

Other buildings includes a garage and the stone loft houses the oil burner and water filtration system.

The grounds include two patio and barbecue areas, as well as a sundeck and the property comes with two phone lines. Just an eight minute drive to Sneem and 20 minutes to Kenmare, this unusual collection of properties might offer an interesting solution for down-shifters.
