Residents put block on student housing
The 300-bed student apartments, to be built on a site close to the Uam Var estate, has run up against opposition from the local community on the grounds of its unsuitability in a mature, residential area.
Curraheen, and Uam Var in particular, happens to be on the fringes of the CIT campus, where O'Flynn Construction intend to build five blocks of three-storey student apartments.
The plans were appealed by the Melbourne Residents Association and Bishopstown Community Association on the grounds that student accommodation should be built on campus and not in their midst.
While matters progress, a good example of the typical Uam Var house is on the market with Donal O'Driscoll of Global Properties.
This house has been extended in the past and now offers two reception rooms, an oak fitted kitchen, a sun room and four bedrooms, as well as two bathrooms.
With the best of amenities on the doorstep, this is one of the better locations in the western suburbs and ideal for a family trading up.
The detached house with good gardens is on offer at 274,000 euro, but this could rise with bidding.
