Hillside home in the commuter belt is about to become a TV star

THE name of this Glounthaune, Co Cork property could have a Suzanne Vega song ringing around in your ears.

Hillside home in the commuter belt is about to become a TV star

A substantial house, it's bulk is nicely broken up in three gables and it's tucked into a south-facing hillside on the outskirts of Cork city country but commutable. But that's not all - this house is also to feature in the next Househunter series on RTE. Owners, Con and Liz Luskin, both dyed in the wool Dubs, are to selling up to return to the Big Smoke after 23 years in Cork.

Both of their sons now work in the capital and all their family are still there, so they are hoping to return to the Clontarf/Malahide/Howth side of the city.

There's one snag however - instead of downsizing, price-wise, they will be up sizing as property values in the Cork, still lag behind the capital.

And even though the Luskin's are willing to forgo a garden and want a smaller house, they may have to add another €150,000 to €200,000 to snag their desired property, says Con, which could eat into the nest egg of the retiring couple. Just another aspect of the present property market.

The programme is ongoing and will be aired in June, but the series starts this April.

Meanwhile, their home for the last quarter of a century or so is up for sale with Valerie Parkes of Sherry FitzGerald.

On a half acre of really tasty grounds, (Con say's he kept pushing back the grass, and built a patio and deck to boot), this is a very distinctive property and is close to good local services, including the rail link to the city.

It comes with a really big kitchen, a family room, lounge, dining room and four bedrooms with one ensuite room, as well as a main bathroom and guest loo.

As an emerging location with some lavish new developments, Glounthaune has superb road access with a choice of routes into Cork city, as well as a regular bus service.
