HIGH up over Cork city, Montenotte has always been the right spot for a des res, but building had been sparse in the city suburb for over 100 years.

However, in the mid-90s, and just before the boom, a number of new schemes went up in Montenotte with O’Brien and O’Flynn and McInerney’s in the vanguard.

At the time, the Springfort development was considered pricey, says auctioneer, Stephen Clarke, who’s selling number 55 Springfort, one of a few detached houses in the 70-house scheme.

And resales are rare enough in the area, adds the agent, who is guiding the four-bed at offers in the region of €585,000. A similar detached property sold recently in the adjoining Woodlands scheme for €635,000, say McKenna, O’Donoghue Clarke REA.
