HMMM, what to do with Paddock Cottage?

The two-bed chalet is by the back strand on Fountainstown beach outside Cork harbour. Facing Ringabella, it is in a sheltered spot just off the main sandy strip.

With its porthole windows framing the inlet views, Paddock Cottage is up for sale for €340,000 with Dennehy Auctioneers in nearby Carrigaline.

That’s a fair amount of cash for a compact two-bed home or holiday home, but the easily accessible coastal location will put it in hot demand in any case.

However, Paddock Cottage doesn’t fit the usual bill of purchase for such older style chalets on valuable sites. Often, the easiest thing is just to tear down the existing block and replace it with a modern, well-built bungalow and thus maximise the site’s value.
