Shalimar sparks strong demand for Douglas home

THE BOARDS have gone up and already there are heavy bookings to view Shalimar, a four-bedroomed, detached house in Hettyfield, Douglas.

Houses are rare enough to come on the market in this south Cork suburb and demand is high, as it’s considered one of the most desirable of the Douglas area.

Fine, square houses, the last sale in this park, through auctioneer Kevin Silke is believed to have fetched a price close to 600,000.

For Shalimar, Brendan Quinlan of CB Hamilton Osborne King, has given a guide price of €550,000, erring on the safe side, because the house will need some modernisation.

It still has its original steel windows, now becoming as cherishable as sash, and the internal layout hasn’t changed since the day it was built.

However, it has a lovely, south-facing garden and has gas-heating installed. Mr Quinlan expects that purchasers here will more than likely extend, and there is plenty of room to do so, he says.

Shalimar has two main reception rooms, which are on the small side at 14’ by 12’ approximately and the kitchen measures 11’ by 11 and comes fully fitted.

All four bedrooms are a good size and because the house has lots of windows, they are also very bright. Also included is a guest cloakroom off the main hallway, a large hotpress and detached garage of 19’ by 10’ with a separate, small store.
