Strand View has great view of the beach

CHANGING sheets and frying a few rashers might be a welcome diversion in the summer season for buyers looking for huge house in a beautiful location.

Strand View has great view of the beach

Strand View, which does exactly what it says, overlooks Kilcummin beach and is a monolith of a house on just under two acres of hillside at Castlegregory.

And while it’s three miles from the village, the strand is a walk away and there are amenities aplenty locally.

According to selling agent, Paul Stephenson of Sherry FitzGerald O’Connell, the property is a fine, family home, but with eight bedrooms could pay its own way in the high season.

Castlegregory is a popular holiday resort and has a strong local pull, especially from wind surfers and golfers but also from the bucket and spade majority. Tralee is after all, less than a half hours drive away.

In all Strand View House has eight bedrooms and six of these are ensuite. However, those at ground floor level could convert to reception rooms, but there are already plenty of these, including one private and one guest lounge. Other rooms include a generous sunroom and a separate dining room that seats 30.

The house is decorated in the Victorian style with good quality cast iron fireplaces and upholstered furniture, which means it has an immediate cosiness.

Rooms are big all over but then that’s not surprising when you consider the house has an approximate area of 3,000 square feet.

A well-established guest house, it was built about 15 years ago, says Mr Stephenson and its brick facade and wood grain PVC fittings means its low maintenance.

The gardens are fully finished out and mature and there’s a large turning and parking area.

Pressurised oil central heating is installed, as is an alarm, and the attic has plenty of storage.

A guide price in excess of €700,000 is given by Mr Stephenson and he also says the contents could be negotiable, depending on the purchasers requirements.

Meanwhile, in the same locality, Ger Dermody of Giles auctioneers is offering a plum ripe for the picking.

He has a 0.75 acre site with full planning for a detached residence without, unusually for this area of Kerry, an owner-occupancy clause.

This site has great views over Brandon Harbour and is close to the pier and nearby beaches. Just 20 miles from Dingle and another 25 miles from Tralee, the site is open to offers in excess of €95,000.

And Ger Carmody adds that “contrary to common perception, the locals will welcome anyone with open arms from Cork or outside the Kingdom.”
