Victorian home with harbour views

THREE into two does go, at least in the case of Mount Carmel, a lofty-perched Victorian home overlooking Cobh and Cork harbour.

For all the world, it looks like two large semi-detached period homes, but in fact the imposing block houses three separate homes. Appropriately given the marine vista, looking out towards Roches Point, one of the near neighbours is the Master of the Irish sail training vessel, the Asgard. The properties were once owned by Mary Kate Bell of Fota House Bell family lineage, they were apparently gifted to her by Lord Midleton whose name is recalled in the Midleton Park, High Road Cobh address. Up for sale is the house on the right (see picture), with about 3,800 sq ft of space on three levels over basement and entry is at the front, just to the left of the bay.

It has been renovated by a builder, John Curran. The house has been done from top to bottom - the basement hasn’t yet been tackled. The accommodation is basically three rooms per floor, and now the house has five bedrooms, one with en suite, two bathrooms, good quality reception rooms plus kitchen. Selling agent Johanna Murphy seeks €480,000 for Mount Carmel.
