THESE Cannon’s Wood houses made a bold statement when they went up in Bandon over three years ago.

Built initially by Pierce Construction and designed by the doyen of upper level, estate houses, Roderick Hogan, they bear more than a passing resemblance to Cork city properties at Mount Oval village and Lindville on the Blackrock road.

But look at the price difference. While detached houses in the city are creeping up to the €1m mark, you can pick up a sublime four-bed for half that in Bandon.

And it’s only 20 miles down the road, which also makes it within commuting distance of the city.
