Reduced price on manor

THE price has dropped back on Glenbeg House, one of Waterford’s oldest dwellings, a fortified 17th century manor house with three towers at its corners.

Restored to best conservation practices, it first hit the market with a €1.2 million price guide for its Swiss owners, and now that has been dropped to €900,000, with bids sought by tender by October 24.

The setting is close to the Waterford-Cork border by Lismore and Glencairn, adjacent to the Blackwater river but without water frontage.

It is set back off the pubic road, unseen, and has 5,500 sq ft of accommodation over three floors with six bedrooms, two formal reception rooms, and a stone courtyard and outbuildings behind. It is on 20 acres of land, with good equestrian facilities, and selling agent Michael H Daniels says there are serious enquiries with the vendors keen for a sale, hence the reduced price.

Portions date to 1620, and restoration work has been in consultation with some of the country’s experts on old buildings.
