Look out over the Lee and Cork harbour

THE East Cork Parkway spinning out from Cork city is notable for a few reasons, not least the view it gives of some stunning large hillside houses on the hills to the north of the busy road.

The last several decades have seen some primely positioned one-off homes here by Glounthane, south-facing overlooking the Lee, Cork harbour and the hinterland out towards Fota, and sites are now few and far between.

Plenty of aspiring residents haven’t been able to go the build- your-own route, and a ready-made option for those looking for trading up homes is the Cois Chuain development by Lane Homes.

Over 30 houses here have sold in a first phase of an up-market scheme with number occupied and finishes can be checked out. Now a similar number is being launched by Catherine McAuliffe of CB Hamilton Osborne King.

Coming to the market are 34 four-bedroomed detached houses, on sites typically of a quarter of an acre, with five house types ultimately to choose from. Just two of the five can be selected right now.

Three-storey, split level houses of 1758 sq ft are priced at €385,000, and rooms include family/dining/ sunroom, kitchen, utility, study.

The next level up has a large sitting room, master bedroom and second bedroom on first floor with two more bedrooms and a bathroom on the upper floor.

A second offering, in contrast to the three-storey option, is four-bed detached bungalows.

These are single storey only in the original sense of the word bungalow: planners didn’t want tall houses on the upper part of the visible site.

These bungalows of 1,453 sq ft, at €375,000 have living room, kitchen/dining/family room, utility room, four bedrooms with master en suite and main bathroom.
