Convent sales becoming a habit
The Dunmanway property comes hot on the heels of the Mercy Convent in Skibbereen, mentioned in these pages last week, and has a far larger landbank on offer.
New to the market with Isobel O'Regan of CB Hamilton Osborne King and TJ Cronin of Irish and European (a past pupil of the second level school) the extensive Dunmanway property has 50,000 sq ft of buildings, on 14 hectares or about 30 acres of land.
The buildings include a Victorian Convent, home to the Daughters of Charity, and five/six storey school building built c 1960s.
The religious body's link to education in the town ended last year when the convent school amalgamated with the vocational school in new buildings almost half a mile away.
The extensive property set just back off the main street of the market town has a zoning reflecting its current use, and intending buyers may seek approval to have changes of use approved in the short to medium term.
There may be some development potential in portions of the land, the convent building could be converted to residential/apartment/hotel-type use, and the grounds are attractive, part-wooded and slightly elevated above the town, with access onto two roads.
No price guide is quoted and proposals are invited.
Likely value could be in the region of €500,000 to €1 million.
