Down to earth home offers warm wood and river views

THE address sounds like the airport at Amsterdam, Schiphol, but Shipool in Cork is a far more down to earth sort of place.

Down to earth home offers warm wood and river views

A short bit down the River Bandon from Innishannon on the scenic route to Kinsale, Shipool is an almost unspoiled wooded area with amenity riverside walk, country feel and a location just 20 minutes drive from Cork city. The beaches of West Cork are within a similar distance.

Up for sale here, with full views over the River Bandon and on a two acre site, is a very large six bedroomed dormer family home, with 3,400 sq ft of space.

The house, built by a local Bandon family, has a price guide in excess of 500,000, reflecting the area's traditional cachet and desirability: the likelihood of getting planning in the area for similar homes is a constantly diminishing prospect. It is for sale with Sheila O'Flynn and Paul Reid of Sherry FitzGerald auctioneers, who say it will appeal to buyers prepared to come out of Cork city. It will also appeal to Bandon, Innishannon and Kinsale families looking for a large trading up home.

The dormer home has a brick facade, dashed walls behind and to the side, and a similar low maintenance finish and details with PVC double glazing.

The accommodation includes a 20' by 14' family room, a lounge set behind a covered recess by the front door, and a good sized kitchen (off the family room via an arch), and all of these rooms are to the front of the house and have river views.

To the back of the house, there's a study, and what could be used as a sixth bedroom or play room: the selling agents label it a rumpus room.

Also at ground level is a bathroom, and a utility behind the kitchen.

The first floor has five bedrooms, with a large master bedroom which has both large walk in wardrobes and an en suite with shower. There are four other bedrooms, one over the large integrated garage, plus a family bathroom.

There's lots of wood used in bedroom floors, built-ins and so on, and the family room has a white oak floor while red oak is used in the lounge. The staircase is in teak.

The house is in very good overall and decorative condition, with extensive grounds more than enough grass to justify a ride-on lawmower.
