Slane hotel on market

THERE’S a call to arms in Slane, the Co Meath village that goes from slow lane to fast lane depending on traffic flows and concert schedules.

Up for sale in the village that is host to some of Europe’s largest rock gigs when Slane Castle rolls out the green carpet is the Conyngham Arms Hotel.

The area is rich in archaeology and history and is 30 miles from Dublin. Vendors are Graham and Bernie Canning, who are selling by auction on April 30 with Insignia Richard Ellis Gunne. Guide price is €2.8 million.

According to the agents, the Conyngham Arms “has been a focal point of local and tourist trade in the area for decades.”

The property was originally built in the 1800s by the Conyngham family of Slane Castle.

Now a hotel and bar, it has been refurbished but retains its stone façade and character.

It has 15 bedrooms on a Victorian theme, a banqueting suite for 180 people and several bars and lounges with a strong function and wedding trade. Last year it hosted 80 weddings. Details: 01-618 5500.
