IT may look like a modern enough house now, but the Stationmaster's House in Lismore, Co Waterford, has a long and interesting history.

The station at Lismore was built in the 1880s and connected Fermoy to Waterford at the same time, opening up rail travel in the South-East.

While it made life convenient for locals (and would still do so today), it also aided and abetted the Dukes of Devonshire in the sport of kings.
