Saddam and begorrah – the identical twins

AS THE Government celebrates the success of the second Nice referendum, could I suggest that Foreign Minister Brian Cowen contact Saddam Hussein with a view to having Ireland twinned with Iraq since both countries share a very similar voting system.

In Iraq the people voted for president with only one name on the ballot paper. In our referendum we appeared to have a choice of either Yes or No, but we knew from experience that our Government would only accept a Yes vote so, rather than face a third referendum on the same issue, we submitted to the bullying.

Twinning with Iraq is the obvious way to go now that we have moved from a democratic to a totalitarian system.
