Moral dilemma

THE Flood Tribunal interim report is an appalling reflection on a culture of greed, corruption and one law for the rich in Fianna Fáil circles in Co Dublin during the 1980s and ’90s.

We now know the extent to which Ray Burke was in thrall to a cabal of private donors while performing his public duties as a member of Dublin County Council and as a TD. There are very serious questions now arising from the appointment of Mr Burke as Foreign Minister, at a time when the Taoiseach knew that there were serious allegations against him.

Despite all the hand-wringing and platitudes, these questions remain unanswered.
