Why tow away a car not causing a hold-up?
What service are they providing at that hour of the night, and for whom?
Living in Parnell Place in the city centre, parking is a nightmare at the best of times. Recently our parking zone was made even smaller when the taxi stand near the bus station was extended. This means that, at this time of year, parking is nigh on impossible.
From Wednesday to Sunday it requires driving round in circles for up to 45 minutes scanning the area for a parking space. Very annoying at the best of times.
It’s made even more annoying when you pass the extended taxi stand time and time again on your circular mission of frustration only to see it empty. The extended taxi area is never used at night. So near and yet so far.
Imagine my ‘joy’ when I set off for work at 8am on Tuesday last only to find my car was gone. Unfortunately for me, I parked in the extended taxi stand area on Monday night because there was no parking to be had anywhere near. My car had been removed by the towing ‘service.’
Where would we be without them and their employers, our city council?
What exactly was achieved when my car was towed away? What obstruction was I causing? Did my ‘offence’ merit a fine of €160 to get my car back, as well as missing two hours of work and, ironically, having to pay a taxi fare to get to the pound?
I’m obviously a bit slow because I really don’t understand what these towing people are supposed to be achieving for the good citizens of Cork at 10.15 on a Monday night.
