Horses or courses?

AFTER entering Mary Immaculate College of Education, Limerick, in the academic year 2000/2001 as a Bachelor of Education student, I had high hopes of seeing the new building plans — long promised to the college — realised before my term as student ended there.

Horses or courses?

This has not happened despite several assurances by the then Education Minister Michael Woods.

Mary Immaculate College submitted a proposal regarding new building plans in 1999. The same year an exhibition centre was mooted for Punchestown, the difference being that the latter received approval in a few short months, and is now complete at the staggering cost of €14.8m of public money. We still wait. Are the educators of tomorrow not as important as horses?
