Discrepancy in number of deportations

IN the context of the recent brouhaha over Nigerian deportations, your readers might like to reflect on the following:

Discrepancy in number of deportations

Nigerians have, for some years, constituted around 40% of asylum applications and one might reasonably expect them to constitute about 40% of deportations.

Instead, over the past few years they have constituted under 10% of them. Over a three-year period, the numbers were 46, 22 and 77.

Is the State implementing a policy of positive discrimination and if so, does this have the support of the public? If not, would the department or the Garda National Immigration Bureau explain the discrepancy.
