Living in taxing times

RECENTLY, a friend of mine was attempting to close her credit card account in order to avoid paying the €40 duty.

No such luck: she was told that there was a tax of €40 to be paid on closing the account as well. Taxed if you do, taxed if you don’t.

What an outrage.
