The price of CIE

I WAS aghast to read (Irish Examiner, July 7) of yet more price hikes requested

If ever proof was needed of the negative impact of a monopoly, then here it is fuel costs are actually dropping, as are air fares.

Admittedly, in many areas our public transport infrastructure is playing catch-up, but that is no excuse for a rip-off.

I agree with John Bruton who has asked the Tánaiste to compel local authorities to conduct and publish price surveys in major urban centres.

These should include bank charges, dental and hospital charges, bus and rail fares, sports admission charges, hotels, restaurants and grocers.
