Dedicated doctors in a crumbling health service
Health Minister Mary Harney should put measures in place now to organise the health service because it is lack of organisation, rather than finance, that’s the problem. I was one of the many people recently sent away from CUH’s A&E, having gone there with my two-year-old son who was to have had a x-ray.
Complete with buggy and all the trappings one brings to relieve boredom for one so young, thinking we were to be there for the long haul, we had to turn around immediately and head for the Mercy Hospital.
There we met with Dr Chris Luke who should be declared a saint for his patience and for the tremendous work he is doing every day.
Such dedicated people, who have given the best of themselves to medicine, will take the same road as Dr Breathnach, and who would blame them. We must remember how lucky we are to have people like this working in our city. I feel embarrassed that, as the capital of culture, our hospitals are in such a critical state.
