Prayer is the best way to fight abortion

IN his column (Irish Examiner, Sept 3), Rónán Mullen, writing on the cult of abortion, asks: “Did the pro-life movement... consider that legal protection was the best that could be achieved in view of an inevitable collapse in public morality.”

In my opinion, this is where the pro-life movement got it wrong. The law is powerless to stop abortion and the pro-life leaders should admit that they are powerless also to change the culture and call on a higher power.

Otherwise Irish babies will continue to die and Irish mothers will continue to suffer the horrendous effects of this evil.

Mgr Reilly discovered this truth about 12 years ago in the US. Like the pro-life leaders in Ireland, he thought the law would protect mums and tots from the abortionists’ bloody agenda.

After 21 years he finally accepted that the only way to deal with an evil such as this was to fight it with prayer.

The success of his apostolate is now well documented.

Abortion mills have closed down in many states and a number of abortion doctors have also seen the light and have stopped killing babies and hurting mothers.
