Who gets all the holidays?

NOW we have had official confirmation of what we have long suspected from the Dublin-based European Foundation for Improvement of Working and Living Conditions - namely that we Irish workers have the shortest holidays of all European workers.

At just 29 days off in the year - including the nine public holidays - we have less even than the numbers of days off enjoyed by workers in eastern European countries such as Latvia and Estonia!

These 29 days off in the year is a total insult to us Irish workers, especially when compared to Sweden where workers enjoy 44 working days off in the year. And guess who is the blame for this? Yet again, this Government has blocked any moves to increase our total number of days off nearer to the European average while at the same time they - the Government and all the rest of the TDs and senators - enjoy some of the longest holidays in Europe!
