Roving romeos leave taxpayer holding the baby

PROFESSOR Edward of the University of Limerick has opened a debate that is long overdue on a subject the liberal forces prefer not to hear — the same forces that are tearing society apart.

Roving romeos leave taxpayer holding the baby

Shooting the messenger will not solve the problem, and Kevin Myers damaged his very valid contribution by his careless use of the ‘B’ word.

There are many reasons for single motherhood, some very tragic and in need of a helping hand, but the reality is that there are no bastard children in this country.

There are, however, quite a few bastard fathers whose sole contribution to the family home is to impregnate his wife/partner before moving on to his next conquest leaving the taxpayer to rear his abandoned child while neither the mother nor the state makes any attempt to compel him to pay up.

Prof Walsh did society a favour with this reality check, but liberal Ireland prefers not to hear.

The welfare system needs serious overhaul to ensure that the roving males face up to their responsibilities and that the rest of us do not have to support these innocent children who are the real victims in the equation.
