Irish Examiner view: Alex Pretti video from Minnesota makes nonsense of Bovino's claims

The ICE crackdown in Minneapolis and other US cities is on the wrong side of history

“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command... And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed — if all records told the same tale — then the lie passed into history and became truth.” 

It was hard not to think of this quote from Orwell’s polemic against totalitarianism, Nineteen Eighty-Four, while watching the charade of US border patrol official Gregory Bovino claim that Alex Pretti, the nurse shot dead after being subdued by a horde of ICE agents, was coming at them with a gun and “intending to inflict maximum damage”.
