To a great extent, Ireland has avoided the schismatic public rows which have riven debate among our neighbours on the topic of gender identity.

This is not to say that opinions do not run strong, but they have been largely under the radar. However, this week’s unequivocal judgement by Britain’s Supreme Court allied to a more belligerent approach by some jurisdictions, particularly the US, means that this may be on the point of change.
