As Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael met yesterday to thrash out a range of issues that will face them as they ready a new administration for Government, near the top of the pile for immediate consideration is the development of those road projects seemingly stymied by the Green Party in the last coalition.

There is hardly anyone in the country unaware of the need for key road infrastructure development — the Cork-Limerick motorway and the Galway bypass being among the most pressing — and the Greens look to have paid a heavy price for being the ones blamed for holding up vital projects.
