The Irish Examiner View: Taking water for granted as usage up 20%

One of the consequences of living in a rich, stable country is that we may take many things for granted, things that in other societies are seen in an entirely different light because they are scarce and irreplaceable.

That we have fewer than 20 rivers that can still be described as "pristine" suggests we take water for granted and imagine it an infinite resource.
