For the past two years, Donald Trump has been doing the opposite — distancing the US from its natural allies and now alienating Russia by announcing American withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty which was signed by Ronald Reagan and Soviet general secretary Gorbachev in Washington in 1987.
