Food scheme figures soaring - Hunger in a rich country

The near-100% increase in the number of people reliant on food supports between 2016 and last year is a sobering and shaming metric.

Just two years ago 54,000 people were supported through the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived, an EU food provision scheme augmented by national governments. Last year that figure, that demand, almost doubled to 96,000.
