Even by his own off-the-chart bottom-feeding standards, president Trump’s immigration policy that allows children to be seized from immigrant parents is deeply shocking.

That so many of his officer class who should know better defend the caging of frightened toddlers among strangers must, tragically, recall the “I was only obeying orders” defence that tyrants’ functionaries used in the last century.
