Cullen plans in line with silly season

We are now at the height of what is often called the media’s silly season.

The politicians and civil servants are on holidays and there is frequently a dearth of hard news, so the media are often reduced to highlighting what might at other times be deemed silly stories.

This summer it seems as if certain members of the Government are determined to avail of every opportunity to secure publicity by coming out with crazy proposals.
