The report about the inability to find secondary-school places for some Limerick children is getting worse rather than better since the problem was first highlighted a month ago.

The report then indicated that 50 children were involved. Some of those children have since secured places but, despite their placement, the number looking for secondary places has increased to 54.

These are all boys from underprivileged backgrounds in disadvantaged areas, where they are more than likely to come under the influence of gangs at the centre of the organised crime already plaguing the city.
