Time to curb contractors’ carelessness

DESPITE a harrowing series of deaths on building sites, cowboy operators continue to endanger the lives of workers in the construction industry.

Not surprisingly, SIPTU, the country’s biggest union, has condemned several sites following random inspections by officials over recent days.

It is utterly deplorable that the high death toll looks set to continue. Who can blame workers for considering a proposal to stage a nationwide walkout from building sites later this month?
